Awuor Onguru

Hi! My name is Awuor, and I'm a storyteller. Born and raised in Nairobi Kenya, I've been telling stories since I could speak out loud. My passion for writing grew out of my passion for reading and theatre, and revolves around the central philosophy of  communicating meaningful stories in order to create worldwide communities. My poetry, non-fiction, longform journalism and cultural criticism  has been published in literary journals such as Menacing Hedge,  blogs such as the Long Wharf Theatre Blog,and with magazines like Teen Vogue.

When not writing, I'm pursuing a degree in English with Creative Writing and an Advanced Language Certificate in French at Yale University. I am also working on forthcoming publications and productions, most notably the workshop reading of my play Seeds with the Yale Playwright's Festival.
